India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. has launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India, marking the brand’s first foray into the highly competitive 200cc motorcycle segment. Priced from ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the YZF-R2 will be available across all Blue Square dealerships from mid-September 2026. It is offered in three variants across five colour options.

A Global-First Product, Built for India
The YZF-R2 is a globally first product, developed on an all-new platform with the engine engineered in Japan in close collaboration with Yamaha’s Indian counterparts. Purpose-built for riders seeking super sport performance, advanced technology, and everyday versatility, the YZF-R2 strikes a balance between track capability and daily rideability.
Variants and Pricing
The base YZF-R2 is priced at ₹2,30,500 and is available in Metallic Black & Dark Bluish Gray, featuring all-black wheels and a matte-finished seat. The mid-variant, priced at ₹2,39,500, adds a segment-first 3rd generation bi-directional Quick Shifter and is offered in Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue, with body-coloured alloy wheels and model-specific graphics. The range-topping YZF-R2M, priced at ₹2,53,000 in Metallic Gray, is designed for riders seeking the ultimate super sport experience. It adds a premium 3D embossed emblem, faux suede-finished seat, silver-finished swingarm, shot-blasted muffler end cap, and fully adjustable front forks, rear shockers, clutch lever, and brake lever.
Across all variants, standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, Traction Control System, Assist and Slipper Clutch, Yamaha Ride Control with three selectable riding modes (Street, Sport, and Rain), 37mm upside-down front forks, and dual-channel ABS.
Race-Inspired Design
Drawing inspiration from Yamaha’s latest global R-series, the YZF-R2 features a sharp, aerodynamic design with a compact bi-functional LED headlight flanked by dual LED position lights — a face that immediately connects it to Yamaha’s iconic R-series lineage. The sculpted front fairing, inspired by the aerodynamics of the R9, is designed to manage airflow for enhanced high-speed stability. At the rear, a block-style LED taillight drawing cues from the YZF-R1 and a MotoGP-inspired swingarm complete the premium sporty character.
All-New Platform and Chassis
The YZF-R2 is built on a newly developed high-tensile steel tube diamond frame inspired by the chassis geometry of Yamaha’s legendary YZF-R6. Weighing just 14 kg, the frame delivers an ideal balance of rigidity and low weight, contributing to a kerb weight of just 149 kg — the lightest in its segment. A four-point engine mounting system with an additional mounting point reduces flex between frame and engine, improving chassis stability and cornering performance.
Suspension duties are handled by 37mm USD front forks and a rear monoshock, tuned for an ideal balance of stability, precise handling, and ride comfort across varied conditions.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the YZF-R2 is a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder, 4-valve, fuel-injected engine delivering a segment-leading 26.5 PS of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. The engine features a finger follower rocker arm valvetrain with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating — a technology derived from Yamaha’s flagship R1 — reducing friction and reciprocating mass for improved efficiency, durability, and free-revving performance.
Technology and Connectivity
The YZF-R2 features a vibrant 5-inch full-colour TFT display providing clear access to ride and navigation information. The M variant adds a Smart Key System for keyless operation. Yamaha Ride Control offers three riding modes — Street, Sport, and Rain — allowing riders to tailor performance to suit different road conditions.
