Tata Motors has launched the all-electric Sierra.ev, reviving an iconic nameplate with a 500-plus kilometre real-world range, a 5.8-second sprint to 100 km/h, and an interior built more like a living room than a car. Bookings open, with prices starting at ₹18.79 lakh.

Tata Motors has brought back one of its most beloved names — and given it a thoroughly modern, electric heart. The all-new Sierra.ev launched with the company describing it as the most advanced and aspirational version of the SUV yet. Bookings are open with deliveries begin on 15 July 2026, and the SUV starts at an introductory price of ₹18.79 lakh.
Tata believes electric vehicles in India are at a tipping point, moving from a niche choice for early adopters into something far more mainstream, helped along by growing customer confidence, better total cost of ownership, and fast-improving charging infrastructure. Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, framed the Sierra.ev as the next chapter of a nameplate that has always stood for more than just transport — first as an icon of its era, then as the SUV that created India’s premium mid-SUV segment when it was reintroduced, and now as Tata’s answer to what a premium electric SUV should feel like. His core message was that customers shouldn’t have to choose between going electric and getting everything they’d expect from a proper premium SUV, with this car.
That promise rests on three pillars. The first is the cabin experience, which Tata is calling a “Luxury LifeSpace.” Instead of a conventional dashboard, the Sierra.ev gets a triple-screen Theatre Pro setup with a Horizon View display, paired with Dolby Atmos sound, a 12-speaker JBL system, and an additional soundbar for richer audio. There’s even in-car gaming through smartphones via something called AirConsole, a first for any car sold in India. A head-up display projects 19 different augmented reality visuals onto the windscreen, the suspension automatically adjusts itself to road conditions, and a panoramic sunroof creates what Tata describes as a glasshouse feel. Practical touches include a 622-litre boot — the largest in its segment — with a powered, gesture-operated tailgate, and an app-based valet system that lets the car park or summon itself.

The second pillar is range and charging, areas where the vehicle maker is keen to move past lab-test numbers and talk about real-world performance instead. The Sierra.ev’s 75 kWh battery delivers more than 500 kilometres of real-world range, and fast charging can add roughly 263 kilometres in just 15 minutes, taking the battery from 20% to 80% in about 26 minutes. The car also supports vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging, meaning it can power external devices or even another EV.
Software plays a big role here too; an intelligent route planner built into Android Auto helps plan journeys around charging stops, an in-car UPI system called DrivePay handles payments, and the car receives continuous over-the-air software updates. It also comes with 22 driver-assistance features and a lifetime warranty on its high-voltage battery.
The third pillar is capability — the idea that an electric SUV doesn’t have to be soft or city-bound. The Sierra.ev uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup producing 504 Nm of torque, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.8 seconds with its Boost Mode engaged. Six terrain modes cover everything from snow and sand to rock-crawling, there’s a dedicated off-road assist system, and the car offers roughly 205mm of ground clearance along with the ability to restart on gradients steeper than 50%. A 540-degree camera system and a “Transparent Mode” — which effectively lets the driver see through the vehicle’s body in tricky terrain — round out the visibility features.
The Sierra.ev is available in seven colours, including a new shade called Rishikesh Rapids and an exclusive Nainital Nocturne reserved for the top-spec Empowered A QWD variant. Taken together, Tata’s aim is to offer a single electric SUV capable enough for a weekend off-road trip, comfortable enough for daily commutes, and quick enough to feel genuinely exciting behind the wheel.
