Maruti Suzuki Brings the Factory Floor Into the Classroom in Rohtak

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has set up an Advanced Manufacturing Lab (AML) at Government ITI Hassangarh in Rohtak, Haryana, giving students hands-on training in real automobile manufacturing processes. Around 200 students are expected to be trained at the lab in its first year.

The lab replicates a shop-floor environment and offers practical training in assembly, welding, painting, machining, mechatronics, and workplace safety. The aim is to prepare students for jobs in the automobile industry by giving them exposure to actual tools, machines, and processes used in factories.

The inaugural event was attended by Mr. Sachin Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, along with senior officials from Maruti Suzuki and the institute. Offer letters were also distributed on the occasion to students selected to join Maruti Suzuki as apprentices after completing their courses.

“Through the Advanced Manufacturing Lab at Hassangarh, we are bringing real shop-floor learning and modern machinery into classrooms. This initiative equips students with confidence to handle industry-specific processes and nurtures talent for the evolving automotive ecosystem.” — Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited

“The establishment of this lab marks a defining milestone in Rohtak’s journey towards becoming a centre of excellence in skill development. This initiative will not only equip students with future-ready skills but will also nurture a culture of innovation, productivity, and technical excellence,” Mr. Gupta, said.

The lab is part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader CSR-led skill development programme and is aligned with the Government of India’s Skill India mission. The Hassangarh facility is the 19th such Advanced Manufacturing Lab the company has set up across India. Maruti Suzuki currently supports 31 ITIs across the country in manufacturing-related trades and offers merit-based scholarships to the top five students at each institute.

The company also runs four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) — at Mehsana and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, and Manesar and Sonipat in Haryana — where students are trained in Japanese manufacturing principles and shop-floor management practices.
