Maruti Suzuki India Limited has stepped up its efforts to promote gender diversity, significantly increasing the participation of women in core manufacturing roles across its Gurugram and Manesar facilities over the past two years.

The company has been actively hiring women for vehicle manufacturing and engine-transmission operations, where they are engaged in critical functions such as assembly and quality control. These roles demand high levels of precision, and women employees undergo the same rigorous training and skill development programmes as their male counterparts, ensuring equal opportunities for growth and career progression.
Highlighting the initiative, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said that while women have long been well represented in functions such as engineering, sales, finance, and supply chain, true inclusion is reflected on the shopfloor where vehicles are built. He emphasised the company’s commitment to further strengthening women’s participation in manufacturing roles.

To support this transition, Maruti Suzuki has developed a comprehensive ecosystem focused on safety, comfort, and inclusivity. The company undertook detailed studies to understand specific requirements and introduced infrastructure enhancements such as dedicated restrooms, changing areas, creche facilities, and enhanced security measures including guards and patrolling during evening shifts. In addition, sensitisation programmes and mandatory POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) training for all employees have been implemented to foster a safe and inclusive work environment.
With more than 190 women added to its shopfloor workforce in the past year, Maruti Suzuki’s total women employee base has now crossed 1,300 across functions.
