“Automechanika Dubai 2025 Is a Record-Breaking Edition”

By N. Balasubramanian

Automechanika Dubai continues to cement its position as the powerhouse marketplace for the global aftermarket, setting new records in scale, participation and content depth in 2025. As the show enters a defining phase of transformation – fuelled by industry shifts, rising knowledge demand and the push towards a new venue next year – Tommy Le, Show Manager, Automechanika Dubai shares his views on growth, globalisation, talent, and the strategic priorities shaping the event’s future trajectory.

On the opening day and overall sentiment at the 2025 edition

“First of all, thank you for your time”, Tommy begins with a smile, reflecting the energy on the show floor. “We are close to finalising the first day of the 2025 edition, and I have to say it has been a really good day. The team has put in tremendous effort to deliver an event that is colourful, active, and meaningful.”

He points out that the show has set new benchmarks this year. “It is a record-breaking edition in terms of exhibitor participation. We have over 2,300 exhibitors from 63 countries. We’re also expecting more than 50,000 visitors from across the world over the next three days. Judging by the footfall, I’m very confident we’re headed for an excellent year.”

On managing rapid growth and expanding into new halls

Tommy acknowledges that scaling the event has been both exciting and demanding. “It may sound like a cliché to say we’re struggling to handle growth, but in our case, it is true,” he says. “Since the post-COVID period, the show has expanded significantly in size, numbers and thematic coverage.”

He links this growth to broader industry shifts. “The post-COVID era coincides with rapid transformation in the automotive sector – both commercially and technologically. EV adoption is accelerating, backed by strong government support in many markets. Being in such a dynamic era gives us a great platform for growth.”

He adds that continuous reinvention has been central to the show’s longevity. “Automechanika as a brand started over five decades ago in Germany, and Automechanika Dubai has been around since 2003 – now in its 22nd year. We stay relevant by renewing our concepts, challenging ourselves and ensuring we equip our audience with the knowledge needed for future growth.”

On the importance of conferences, panels and parallel activities

Tommy highlights the scale and strategic importance of the content programme. “We have more than 180 speakers and panellists across four main stages. Compared to last year, that’s nearly a 70% increase. Content has become a critical pillar of our growth story.”

Traditionally positioned as a trading hub for the Middle East and Africa, the show has evolved in line with market needs. “As the industry undergoes transformation, the demand for knowledge has grown tremendously. That is why these conferences and discussions are so essential.”

He also underlines the Innovation for Mobility Zone. “Launched in 2023, it’s a dedicated space where the brightest minds meet, network and exchange ideas. This is truly where the future of the automotive aftermarket is being shaped.”

On the global character of the show and the role of international pavilions

International participation remains one of the show’s strongest attributes. “Automechanika Dubai has always been viewed as the number one trading hub within the global Automechanika family, which today comprises 15–16 shows around the world,” Tommy notes.

“You cannot be a trading hub without the element of connection. This year, we have 2,300+ exhibitors from over 60 countries and expect visitors from more than 150 countries. Bringing people together from all corners of the world and facilitating business and knowledge exchange is at the core of what we do.”

On what more could be added to enhance the show

Tommy frames the challenge succinctly: “Your biggest competitor is yourself – how to beat your own performance year after year.”

He says Automechanika focuses on its core growth pillars: sustainability, innovation, digitisation, training and development, recruitment and safety. “There is room to improve in every pillar. Some areas are more advanced; others require more focus.”

He discusses one area particularly important to him – attracting young talent. “We notice companies struggling to secure the next generation of talent. We want to play a bigger role in inspiring young people. This year, we hosted a student team from Heriot-Watt University in Dubai who showcased an electric racing prototype. They participate in student racing leagues globally. Supporting such initiatives helps us give back to the community while sparking interest among future professionals.”

On the shift to a new venue next year

Tommy confirms that Automechanika Dubai is preparing for a significant move. “Yes, we are shifting to Dubai Expo City’s Dubai Exhibition Centre. I believe this is the natural next step for us. Change comes with a period of adjustment, but we see it as an opportunity, not a challenge.”

He highlights the alignment with national priorities. “The new venue is state-of-the-art and designed for mega events like Automechanika Dubai. It represents long-term growth and mirrors the UAE’s D33 economic vision to double GDP by 2033. Mobility and logistics are key sectors driving this ambition, and our show is strongly aligned with these goals.”

On his message to the automotive community

Tommy concludes with an invitation: “I want to invite everyone active in the automotive sector to visit Automechanika Dubai from 9–11 December at the Dubai World Trade Centre. We sincerely hope you have a wonderful show.”
