Tata Motors and Repos: Transforming India’s energy distribution ecosystem

In light of growing concerns surrounding climate change and the imperative need for a carbon-neutral future, India stands at a pivotal moment in its environmental journey. The country’s significant contributions to global greenhouse gas emissions, particularly from the transportation and energy sectors, underscore the urgency for a substantial shift towards sustainability. The achievement of a carbon-neutral future demands concerted efforts to reduce emissions and enhance carbon sequestration – an essential step in mitigating the adverse impacts of greenhouse gases on the environment.

Established in 2017 by Chetan and Aditi Bhosale-Walunj, Repos embarked on a visionary mission to revolutionise energy distribution, propelling the world towards a carbon-neutral future. With invaluable guidance and support from Mr. Ratan Tata, Repos secured crucial funding and mentorship. The company swiftly developed a technology-driven platform, connecting end consumers with diverse energy providers through an innovative marketplace accessible via a user-friendly mobile application. This approach introduced a streamlined solution for mobile energy distribution, facilitating hassle-free fuel ordering and delivery. Repos has introduced pioneering innovations like the Repos Mobile Petrol Pump and DATUM (Data Automated Teller Ultimate Machine), significantly transforming India’s energy distribution landscape through technological advancements.

Beyond its growth, Repos has empowered petrol pump dealers and supported aspiring entrepreneurs in fuel distribution startups, earning the esteemed National Startup Award in 2021. Looking ahead, Repos remains dedicated to expanding its presence – in India and on the international stage. Its vision revolves around reshaping global energy distribution, aligning with India’s sustainable development goals and positioning Repos as a technological frontrunner advocating for a greener and healthier future for all.

According to Chetan Walunj, Founder and CEO of Repos, “Tata Motors’ unwavering support and continuous engagement via Tata Motors’ research and development team has played a pivotal role in our journey. Their partnership has been an invaluable source of insights, enabling Repos to engineer exceptional products tailored specifically for mobile petrol pumps across various capacities—ranging from 3kl, 4kl to 6kl bowsers. Tata Motors’ offerings epitomise quality and working together with us has enhanced operations and ensured customer satisfaction. This collaboration sets new standards for innovation and service excellence.”

Walunj outlines several compelling reasons for the preference for Tata Motors vehicles “Since 2016, we have relied on Tata Motors for their exceptional quality. We believe the superior fuel efficiency, cost-effective maintenance and remarkable resale value of this model are in perfect alignment with our operating ethos. With their Sampoorna Seva programme, vehicle uptime is significantly improved, whereas Fleet Edge provides critical parameters to enhance profitability for vehicle owners.” He adds, “Tata Motors has provided us with invaluable training engagements with sessions covering key topics like BS4, BS6, OBD2 changes and driving patterns, all aimed at optimising fuel efficiency. This is why Repos’ 80% of fully-built solutions are Tata Motors commercial vehicles.”

“Their comprehensive support solidifies our confidence in Tata Motors, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to excellence”, asserts Mr Walunj. “Our fully-built solutions are primarily made up of Tata Motors vehicles, particularly those purchased for bowser applications, which operate seamlessly across Pan India for our diverse operations”.

Repos’ co-founder, Aditi Bhosale-Walunj, reiterated the reasons for Repos’ deep appreciation of its partnership with Tata Motors. She highlighted Tata Motors’ extensive service network, their specialised fuel bowser products and the exceptional driving comfort that their vehicles provide. Additionally, she noted the positive feedback gathered from drivers, highlighting increased fuel efficiency, pickup and overall driving comfort in comparison to the earlier BS4 models.

She further added, stating, “As we observe the evolving dynamics of our partnership, it is apparent that Repos, functioning as an e-commerce entity catering to fuel distribution, foresees substantial growth with Tata Motors. This collaborative effort is strategically positioned to chart expansive pathways for both parties, effectively addressing market demands and nurturing growth within the fuel distribution industry.”
