Renault Duster returns with 5-star safety, strengthening comeback story in India

Renault India has marked a significant milestone in the comeback of the new Duster, with the SUV securing a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP).

The new Duster delivered a strong performance across both key safety parameters, scoring 30.49 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection. The rating applies across the entire range, based on tests conducted on multiple variants including EVOLUTION, TECHNO and ICONIC, highlighting Renault’s approach of offering consistent safety without variant-based compromises.

Built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), the new Duster has been engineered from the outset to meet stringent 5-star safety benchmarks. The SUV features enhanced structural integrity designed to deliver predictable and consistent occupant protection across different crash scenarios, aligning with Renault’s global Human First programme that integrates safety into every stage of development.

At the same time, the Duster continues to build on its legacy of strong driving dynamics, combining ride comfort, handling stability and confidence across varied Indian road conditions. With the addition of a certified 5-star safety rating, the SUV now brings together performance and verified safety in a single, well-rounded package.

The all-new Duster comes equipped with 35 standard safety features across all variants, ensuring a strong baseline for every customer. These include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), six airbags, hill hold and hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchors, three-point seat belts for all passengers and seat belt reminders. The SUV also offers 17 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and blind spot detection, enhancing active safety and driver awareness.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Francisco Hidalgo Marques, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Renault Group India, said the Duster has already resonated with Indian customers for its design, ride quality and performance, and the addition of a 5-star safety rating further strengthens its appeal by combining efficiency, safety and long-term ownership value, supported by a seven-year warranty.

Dr. V. Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, India, added that the rating reflects the depth of engineering and validation behind the product. He noted that the Duster underwent extensive simulations, crash testing and system-level validation tailored to Indian conditions, ensuring that structural performance, restraint systems and electronic safety features work seamlessly together.
