The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the electric vehicle (EV) retail data for February 2025, highlighting key trends in India’s evolving EV market. Despite some challenges, the sector showed resilience, with Passenger EVs witnessing an 18.95% year-on-year (YoY) growth and Three-Wheelers continuing their dominance with a 56.4% market penetration. While Two-Wheelers saw a marginal decline, they retained a significant market share of 5.6%, and Commercial EVs crossed the 1% threshold, signalling steady progress in fleet electrification.

Commenting on the data, FADA President Mr. C. S. Vigneshwar said: “In February 2025, India’s electric vehicle market demonstrated commendable resilience, with positive growth across segments despite some challenges. Electric Passenger Vehicles recorded a robust 18.95% year-on-year (YoY) increase, reflecting growing consumer awareness and adoption of EVs in the personal mobility space, now achieving a market share of 3.0%.
The Electric Two-Wheeler segment, although experiencing a marginal YoY decline of 8.05%, maintained a significant market share of 5.6%, underscoring the sustained demand for affordable EV mobility solutions.

Electric Three-Wheelers continued their impressive trajectory, growing 4.95% YoY and securing the highest market penetration at 56.4%. This confirms their pivotal role in India’s electrification journey, particularly in last-mile connectivity and commercial transportation.
The Electric Commercial Vehicle segment, despite witnessing moderate growth of 1.1% YoY, surpassed the crucial 1% market share threshold, highlighting incremental yet steady progress toward commercial fleet electrification.
As an industry, we must sustain collaborative efforts to enhance charging infrastructure, policy incentives, and awareness initiatives to unlock the full potential of EV adoption in India. Aligning with the Government of India’s ambitious EV30@2030 vision—which aims for 30% of private cars, 40% of buses, 70% of commercial vehicles, and 80% of two-wheelers and three-wheelers to be electric by 2030—the auto industry must do much more to drive India’s clean mobility transition forward.”
