Volvo Buses India, a business unit of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), showcased the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper at PRAWAAS 5.0 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, further strengthening its premium coach portfolio in India.
Combining the advantages of seating and sleeper travel on a single platform, the new coach is engineered for both short- and long-distance operations. It enables operators to cater to diverse travel requirements while delivering the premium travel experience that passengers have associated with Volvo buses for more than two decades.
The launch comes at a time when India’s long-distance passenger transport sector is evolving rapidly, driven by rising expectations for comfort, safety and luxury travel. Operators are also seeking solutions that maximise fleet utilisation and operational efficiency. Built on Volvo Buses’ globally proven coach platform, the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper combines world-class engineering with superior ride comfort, tailored to the evolving needs of intercity, tourism and pilgrimage travel across India.

The 15-metre Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper is powered by Volvo’s fuel-efficient VEDX8 engine and features 21 upper-deck sleeper berths, 27 premium lower-deck seats with calf support, and three rear sleeper berths, accommodating a total of 51 passengers. Equipped with an I-Shift transmission and 6 cu. m of luggage space, the coach is engineered for demanding long-distance operations, helping operators maximise productivity without compromising passenger comfort.
Designed around the passenger, the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper features refreshed interiors, enhanced mood lighting, premium seating and berth layouts, integrated entertainment provisions, mobile charging points, privacy features and a calm cabin environment, collectively delivering one of the most comfortable travel experiences in its segment.
The coach also incorporates thoughtfully designed passenger amenities, including a fully integrated kitchenette and an onboard toilet, enhancing convenience and comfort during long-distance journeys.
In an industry first, the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper introduces a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance and active safety technologies. Among the highlights is a 360-degree camera system, providing drivers with a complete surround view of the vehicle. The coach is also equipped with Electronic Mirrors (Camera Monitor System), replacing conventional rear-view mirrors. The system enhances visibility in adverse weather and low-light conditions while reducing blind spots and improving overall driver awareness.
Further strengthening safety, the Volvo 9600 Seater-Sleeper features a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which continuously monitors tyre health to improve vehicle reliability, safety and fuel efficiency. A Driver State Monitoring System detects signs of fatigue, distraction and critical driving situations, providing timely alerts to support safer operations. To reinforce responsible driving practices, the coach is also equipped with an Alcohol Interlock System, preventing vehicle operation if alcohol is detected and adding another layer of protection for passengers and operators.
The new coach is further equipped with a telematics solution that provides operators with real-time access to critical vehicle information, including location, speed, fuel consumption, vehicle performance and operational alerts. The connected platform supports improved fleet management and enables data-driven operational decisions.
