Ola Electric’s 4680 Bharat Cell Battery Pack Secures ARAI Certification

Ola Electric today announced that its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack in 5.2 kWh configuration has received ARAI certification under the latest AIS-156 Amendment 4 standards issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This certification clears the way for Ola to begin production and customer deliveries of vehicles powered by its own battery cells — a key milestone in India’s push for cell-level EV localisation.

With this certification, the new 5.2 kWh battery pack will debut on the Ola S1 Pro+, making it the company’s first scooter powered entirely by Ola-developed cell technology. Until now, the company has relied on imported cells across its scooter and motorcycle portfolio.

Ola Electric spokesperson said, “With the ARAI certification of our 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, we are ready to deliver our first vehicles powered by our own cells. This is a defining milestone in our mission to build India’s EV technology leadership and reduce reliance on global supply chains. Customers will soon be able to experience the enhanced range, performance and reliability that our homegrown cells bring to our scooters and motorcycles.”

The new 4680 battery pack has undergone one of the industry’s most rigorous approval processes, with extensive testing for water immersion, vibration durability, thermal shock, and operational reliability in extreme climatic conditions.

Ola’s move toward vertical integration — from designing and manufacturing battery cells to vehicle production — is expected to strengthen unit economics, improve performance, and reduce supply chain dependency, especially as the company gears up to scale production at its upcoming Gigafactory.
