MG Windsor Drives EV Adoption Beyond Metros, 70% Sales from Smaller Cities

JSW MG Motor India has reported a significant shift in electric vehicle (EV) adoption trends, with non-metro cities emerging as key growth drivers. The company revealed that nearly 70% of total sales of its MG Windsor EV have come from non-metro markets, highlighting growing awareness and acceptance of EVs beyond urban centres.

The MG Windsor, currently India’s top-selling EV, has recorded cumulative sales of around 65,000 units. According to the company, the model’s strong value proposition has resonated with customers in smaller cities, including a large number of first-time car buyers transitioning to electric mobility.

A major factor behind its appeal is what MG describes as the ‘ABC’ proposition—offering the price of an A-segment vehicle, the exterior size of a B-segment car, and the interior space of a C-segment vehicle. This combination has helped position the Windsor as a practical and accessible EV for a wide range of consumers.

The vehicle blends spaciousness, advanced features, and sustainable performance, catering to families, tech-savvy users, and environmentally conscious buyers alike. Positioned as India’s first Intelligent CUV, the MG Windsor combines sedan-like comfort with SUV-like versatility.

Offered with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) starting price of ₹9.99 lakh plus ₹3.9 per km, the Windsor is powered by a 100 kW motor delivering 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Customers can choose between two battery options—a 38 kWh pack offering a range of 332 km and a larger 52.9 kWh PRO variant delivering up to 449 km.

The EV also comes with a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner and a 3-60 assured buyback plan, enhancing ownership confidence. Design and comfort remain key highlights, with MG’s ‘AeroGlide’ styling, ‘Aero Lounge’ reclining seats, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system contributing to a premium in-cabin experience.

With strong traction in non-metro markets, MG Motor India’s Windsor EV is emerging as a key enabler of wider EV adoption across the country, signalling a broader shift in consumer mindset towards sustainable mobility.
