Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, has
achieved a major safety milestone with the All-New Dzire becoming India’s first sedan to receive a
5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). The certification was formally presented to the company by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, during an official event in New Delhi.

The New Age Baleno, also tested under Bharat NCAP, earned an impressive 4-star rating. Both models are built on Suzuki’s 5th generation HEARTECT platform and come equipped with a wide array of active and passive safety features.
Underscoring its commitment to road safety, Maruti Suzuki announced that all its passenger vehicle
models will feature 6 airbags as standard across all variants by the end of this year. Currently, 10 models – including the Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto – are already equipped with 6 airbags across the range. In addition, the company has ensured that all 18 of its models come standard with Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®), making it the widest ESP-equipped portfolio in the Indian automotive industry, well ahead of regulatory mandates.
During the certification event, the Hon’ble Minister praised the achievement, stating that Bharat NCAP brings globally benchmarked safety testing protocols to Indian consumers and is aimed at raising safety awareness across the country. He lauded Maruti Suzuki for securing a 5-star rating for the All-New Dzire and commended the company’s initiative to equip even entry-level vehicles with 6 airbags, calling it a significant move towards making safety a mainstream priority in the automotive market. He also urged both manufacturers and consumers to make safety a shared responsibility.
Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, expressed gratitude to the Government of India and testing agencies for their efforts in promoting safety standards. He highlighted that the company has worked relentlessly to ensure safety is not a premium offering but a standard feature across its portfolio. He reiterated the company’s plan to roll out 6 airbags across all models and variants within the current year, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s vision of safe and informed mobility for all.
