Maruti Suzuki and Tamil Nadu Commission Seven New Automated Driving Test Tracks

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in partnership with the Transport Department of Tamil Nadu, has commissioned seven new Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across the State, marking a major step in strengthening road safety and modernising the driver-licensing system. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M. K. Stalin, inaugurated the ADTTs at Coimbatore (Central), Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Madurai (North), Sivagangai, Dindigul and Tiruchirappalli (West) via video conference.

The rollout is part of a larger MoA to automate ten driving test centres. Demonstrating rapid execution, Maruti Suzuki has completed all ten within a record 150 days, with facilities at Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Marthandam set to go live shortly.

Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the fully automated tracks eliminate human bias by using high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics and an integrated IT system to deliver transparent, standardised, and objective testing. With India recording 1.77 lakh road fatalities in 2024, he stressed the critical need for disciplined driving and rigorous evaluation.

The ADTTs will cater to applicants for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles, assessing them strictly as per Central Motor Vehicle Rules. Test results are generated automatically, ensuring complete transparency.

Maruti Suzuki has now automated 56 ADTTs across eight states and is on course to expand its footprint to 81 centres through new agreements in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. The company’s broader road safety initiatives include Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research, Road Safety Knowledge Centres, Integrated Traffic Safety Management Systems and First Responder training — marking one of the most comprehensive road-safety programmes led by an OEM in India.
