JS Four Wheel @ 40 From a Modest Beginning to a Lasting Legacy

Nikunj Sanghi, Managing Director

JS Four Wheel Motors Pvt Ltd, a prominent Mahindra dealer in eastern Rajasthan, completed 40 years in 2025. With operations spanning Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Karauli, the dealership’s journey reflects the steady transformation of automotive retail in India’s semi-urban and rural markets. At the centre of this journey is Mr. Nikunj Sanghi, whose entrepreneurial path was shaped less by ambition and more by responsibility, resilience, and strong personal values.

Born into a household deeply connected with the automobile trade, Mr. Sanghi grew up inside a dealership. His father, Mr. Jaswant Singh Sanghi, was the CEO of United Motors of Rajasthan, representing leading automotive brands across the state. The family lived above the dealership, making business life an everyday reality. Yet, despite this exposure, Mr. Sanghi did not initially see himself becoming a dealer.

Rishabh Sanghi, Director

“I chose a professional path very consciously,” says Mr. Sanghi. “I wanted to build my own identity and understand corporate systems before taking any other call.”

Armed with a law degree from Delhi University and qualifications as a Company Secretary, he began his career as a management trainee with DCM Limited, part of the Shriram Group. His early years were spent learning governance, discipline, and structured management away from Rajasthan. That stable corporate trajectory, however, was interrupted by circumstance.

An Unplanned Return and a Turning Point

Mr. Sanghi returned to Rajasthan when his father lost his eyesight while still in active service. Family responsibility required him to step in as CEO of United Motors of Rajasthan, putting his corporate career on hold.

“At that stage, duty mattered more than ambition,” he recalls. After spending over two years at the family-run dealership and gaining valuable operational experience, he decided to move on and resume his corporate journey in Delhi. Fate, however, had a different direction in store.

In 1985, Mr. Sanghi was offered an opportunity to start a dealership of his own. The proposal was met with hesitation. Having grown up in the business, he understood the capital intensity, operational complexity, and emotional investment the dealership model demanded. “I agreed very reluctantly,” he says. “I believed it would be temporary.”

He chose Alwar over larger markets, partly due to its proximity to Delhi and partly due to uncertainty about long-term success. Within months of starting operations, he lost his father. The dealership he had reluctantly begun now carried his father’s initials and legacy.

Building JS Four Wheel from the Ground Up

JS Four Wheel Motors was established in 1985, named after Mr. Jaswant Singh Sanghi. The dealership began in a modest 600-square-foot rented space. In its first year, it sold just seven vehicles in a market driven largely by utility and necessity.

“Those early years tested patience and belief,” Mr. Sanghi reflects. “But failure was no longer an option.” What began as an obligation gradually became a personal mission. Persistence replaced hesitation, and systems replaced uncertainty. Growth came steadily through consistency rather than dramatic expansion.
Today, JS Four Wheel Motors operates nine outlets across four districts of eastern Rajasthan. The network includes five full 3S facilities, dedicated service centres, and a strong local presence. From selling seven vehicles in its first year, the dealership now handles thousands of vehicles annually across personal and commercial segments.

A key phase of growth unfolded in the early 2000s, when the dealership transitioned from a largely utility-led business to a more diversified portfolio including SUVs, pickups, and last-mile commercial solutions. Post-2002, the focus shifted towards upgraded infrastructure, stronger customer engagement, and experience-led retail. This evolution enabled JS Four Wheel to serve a wider and more diverse customer base across eastern Rajasthan.

Values That Shaped the Organisation

Scale alone does not define JS Four Wheel Motors. Its true strength lies in culture. Mr. Sanghi built the organisation around values such as integrity, humility, respect, and collaboration. “Integrity is non-negotiable,” he says. “It applies equally to customers, employees, bankers, and partners.”

Operating in tier-3 towns, attracting skilled manpower was a challenge. Instead of chasing talent, the dealership focused on developing it. Many employees have spent decades with the organisation, with families and even second-generation members continuing within the system. The workplace evolved into an extended family rather than a transactional environment.

Another defining shift has been the inclusion of women, who now form nearly 25 percent of the workforce. Continuous investment in infrastructure, training, and processes ensured the dealership stayed ahead of market expectations.

Impact Beyond Dealership Walls

The impact of JS Four Wheel extends beyond sales numbers. The dealership has contributed to employment, access, and skill development across eastern Rajasthan. Recognising the shortage of trained automotive professionals, Mr. Sanghi, who has also headed FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations) as its President and thereafter served as the Chairman of Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), initiated in-house skill development centres for JS Four Wheel.

These centres provide free training to technicians, sales consultants, and support staff without binding them to the organisation. Over the years, many professionals trained here have strengthened workshops and dealerships across the region. “This is our way of giving back,” he says. “When you grow, you must carry others along.”

Customer trust has been built over generations, with families returning to the dealership over decades. Transparency, accessibility, and long-term relationships have remained central to the business philosophy, helping JS Four Wheel remain resilient through market cycles and industry shifts.

Looking Ahead

As JS Four Wheel Motors enters its fifth decade, leadership has transitioned to the next generation. Mr. Sanghi’s son, Mr. Rishabh Sanghi, who has been part of the organisation for over 15 years, now leads the business.

“Leadership is about preparing others,” says Mr. Sanghi. “An organisation must be larger than any one individual.” While growth continues, success today is measured in customer experience, employee pride, and sustained relevance. In a future where products may converge, Mr. Sanghi believes experience will remain the true differentiator.

Four decades after a reluctant beginning, JS Four Wheel Motors stands as a symbol of steady leadership and community-centric growth. Mr. Nikunj Sanghi’s journey shows that entrepreneurship does not always begin with ambition. Sometimes, it begins with responsibility and matures into a legacy built on trust.
