Honda Cars India has received confirmation certificates from both the Automotive Research Association of India and the International Centre for Automotive Technology, recognising its Wind Tunnel Facility at Honda’s R&D centre in Tochigi, Japan, for conducting testing activities that support Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure certification requirements for India-specific models.

The ARAI certificate was handed over by Dr. Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, to Mr. Udit Kumar, Senior Vice President and Director of Honda Cars India. The ICAT certificate was presented by Mr. Saurabh Dalela, Director of ICAT, to Mr. Udit Kumar at a separate ceremony.

The certification allows Honda Cars India to use the Wind Tunnel facility in combination with Chassis Dynamometer facilities for vehicle road load determination under the AIS:175 regulatory standard, which mandates the adoption of WLTP from April 1, 2027. WLTP is a globally recognised vehicle testing procedure developed under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe to provide more accurate measurements of fuel consumption, energy consumption, and exhaust emissions. It is already in use across Europe, Japan, and South Korea.

Mr. Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, said: “We are pleased to receive this certification from ARAI and ICAT for Honda’s Wind Tunnel Test Facility to be used for testing activities supporting the upcoming WLTP certification requirements. While it is an important milestone, it is also a reflection of Honda’s long-standing commitment to engineering excellence and proactive compliance with evolving regulations.”
The certification enables Honda Cars India to leverage its global R&D infrastructure to ensure seamless regulatory compliance for its future models in India ahead of the 2027 deadline.
