Energy In Motion Ltd. (EIM Ltd) has inaugurated its heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging station at Rewari, Haryana, strengthening the energy infrastructure supporting the transition to electric freight along the NH-48 Delhi-Mumbai corridor.
The station was inaugurated by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, in the presence of Mr. Mahendra Singhi, Board Member and Advisor, Dalmia Cement; Mr. Arun Kumar Khurana, Joint President and Head of Operations Logistics, UltraTech Cement; Mr. Manav Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO, Drivn; and Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, Energy In Motion Ltd. The event was attended by industry and corporate players, fleet owners, transporters, financiers, lenders, and end-customers.
The Rewari facility is part of EIM’s network of heavy-duty swapping-cum-charging stations along the NH-48 corridor, alongside facilities at Palwal and Kotputli, each with a connected load of 2.5 MW. EIM’s infrastructure-led approach is designed to help heavy electric vehicles operate with greater energy availability and reduced dependence on long charging halts. Under its battery-swapping model, a depleted battery is exchanged for a charged one, allowing heavy-duty electric vehicles to return to operations quickly, supporting the broader national push to expand electric mobility and charging infrastructure for e-trucks and freight.
Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, EIM Ltd., said the Rewari station is dedicated to supporting green logistics more economically. He said the facility can swap a discharged battery on an electric heavy commercial vehicle (e-HCV) in about 7 minutes, compared to 55-60 minutes for conventional charging, significantly improving fleet availability and economics for owners and transporters. The station can serve over 150 vehicles a day, and EIM’s battery-swapping model, combined with its larger 350 kWh battery capacity, can increase monthly return trips on a corridor by 10% for any logistics service provider.
He added that EIM plans to set up 40 such stations across India in the current financial year, of which 8 are already operational and 7 more are in various stages of installation. He also noted that EIM’s “Maitryi” model, or Battery as a Service (BaaS), has already gained strong traction across India by reducing a customer’s upfront capital deployment by 40% when buying a heavy-duty electric truck.
