Driving Periodic Technical Inspection Forward: The VTEQ Way

Among the notable participants at this year’s Automechanika Frankfurt was VTEQ, a Spain-based leader in periodic technical inspection (PTI) equipment. In an exclusive chat with MOTORINDIA, Fernando Casado, Business Development Manager, VTEQ, highlighted the company’s advancements, ongoing projects, and strategic plans for the global PTI sector.

Innovation on Display
Discussing the importance of Automechanika, Fernando remarked, “Everyone in our market knows perfectly what Automechanika means. It’s the main exhibition for suppliers and manufacturers, especially in the vehicle testing sector. We are here to share what we’ve developed over the years, meet existing collaborators, and connect with new partners.”

VTEQ showcased its portable PTI solution, designed to bring vehicle testing directly to fleets and end-users, eliminating the need for vehicles to travel to centralized test centers. “This portable solution has been highly requested globally,” noted Fernando. “It’s focused on providing convenience by delivering PTI services at different locations, ensuring flexibility and efficiency for fleet operators.”

In addition to hardware innovations, VTEQ has been advancing in software development, including augmented and virtual reality integration for vehicle testing processes. “We’re developing a complete application that integrates virtual workshop environments with AI-powered tools, enabling seamless testing and administrative approval. This is a key focus area for the future,” said Fernando.

Global Reach and Market Expansion
The UK remains VTEQ’s strongest market, thanks to its well-established PTI infrastructure, with over 25,000 inspection points. “The UK is a fantastic market for us,” Fernando shared. “Our partnership with Total Care there has been instrumental in maintaining our position.”

The company is also exploring emerging markets, such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the Philippines, where the demand for PTI systems is growing. One market of particular interest is India, where PTI is still developing.

“India has one of the largest vehicle fleets in the world, making it a significant opportunity for PTI,” he explained. “We partnered with ATS Elgi, the largest supplier in India’s automotive aftersales sector, to localize production. This partnership allows us to reduce lead times and overcome logistical challenges while preparing for the anticipated growth in PTI centers across the country.”

VTEQ currently produces 100-120 PTI units annually in India through ATS Elgi, with plans to scale operations as demand increases. “We are working closely with the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to align with new EV standards, contributing our expertise and knowledge through ATLG,” Fernando added.

Looking Ahead
As VTEQ continues to push boundaries in PTI technology, its approach remains grounded in collaboration and innovation. “We don’t claim to be the best,” said Fernando. “We simply do things our way, emphasizing strong relationships and a customer-first philosophy.”

With a dynamic roadmap, including AI integration, advanced software solutions, and localized production, VTEQ is poised to strengthen its presence across established and emerging markets. Fernando summed up the company’s ethos: “Our focus is on growing together – with our partners, customers, and the industry at large.”
