Blue Energy Motors Advancing Multi-Energy Heavy-Duty Trucking

A multi-energy approach combining LNG, electric mobility and connected technologies will shape the future of heavy-duty freight transportation.

India’s commercial vehicle industry is entering a decisive phase where the future of freight transportation will depend not on a single propulsion technology but on deploying the right energy solution for the right application. As freight demand continues to rise, the industry’s focus is shifting towards cleaner mobility solutions that balance sustainability, operational efficiency and commercial viability.

Mr. Jayesh Shelar, Chief Marketing Officer, Blue Energy Motors, believes the industry’s transition will be driven by a multi-energy ecosystem in which LNG, electric vehicles and biofuels will each play distinct roles based on route economics, payload requirements, duty cycles and infrastructure readiness. Rather than adopting every available technology, he said the industry’s success will depend on making clean mobility commercially viable at scale.

Mr. Shelar observed that total cost of ownership, vehicle uptime and supporting infrastructure will become as important as the vehicles themselves. At the same time, connected intelligence, predictive maintenance and real-time fleet visibility will transform the way commercial vehicles are monitored, maintained and operated, enabling fleets to improve productivity while reducing operating costs.

He also emphasised that the transition to cleaner freight requires close collaboration between OEMs, fleet operators, energy providers, infrastructure developers, financial institutions and policymakers. According to him, the industry’s focus will increasingly shift from debating whether heavy-duty mobility will transition to determining how quickly it can be scaled in an economically sustainable manner.

“Clean freight will become mainstream only when sustainability aligns with business economics and operational realities,” shared Mr. Shelar.

Blue Energy Motors is preparing for this future through an application-led strategy built around LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks, supported by energy infrastructure, connected vehicle technologies and lifecycle service capabilities. The company’s fleet of more than 1,400 LNG and electric trucks has already completed over 100 million kilometres of green freight operations, demonstrating that cleaner heavy-duty transportation is commercially viable beyond pilot projects.

Looking ahead to 2030, Mr. Shelar said Blue Energy Motors will continue expanding the adoption of cleaner trucks, strengthen charging and energy infrastructure, improve vehicle uptime through connected intelligence and help fleet operators transition to low-carbon mobility without compromising productivity, reliability or profitability.
