From specialist diagnostics and genuine parts sourcing to a dedicated body shop division, Chennai-based Evolve Automotive is expanding its capabilities to serve premium car owners with dealership-level expertise and independent workshop pricing.

Founded in 2017 as a Mahindra First Choice franchisee, Evolve Automotive transitioned to its own brand following the COVID-19 disruption in 2020. The experience gained during its initial years helped the company identify an opportunity in Chennai’s premium European car segment, where specialised independent workshops were relatively few.
Operating from a 12,000 sq. ft. facility in Guindy, Evolve Automotive has serviced more than 4,000 premium cars. Its workshop combines dedicated diagnostic facilities, air-conditioning services and wheel alignment and balancing equipment. The company also operates as an authorised Mitsubishi Motors sales and service dealer, bringing multiple brand capabilities under one roof.
“We started with the basics and gradually invested in the tools required to work on premium European cars. As we gained experience, we realised that these vehicles needed more than generic diagnostic equipment. They required OE-level tools and a systematic approach to troubleshooting,” said Sathish Kumar R., Managing Director, Evolve Automotive.
Investing in Advanced Diagnostics
Evolve Automotive began with Launch diagnostic equipment and subsequently expanded its capabilities with Bosch and other multi-brand tools, alongside vehicle-specific OE diagnostic systems. These enable the workshop to handle complex fault diagnosis, coding and other technical requirements across brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen. Its equipment also includes the Hunter HawkEye Elite wheel alignment system.

The workshop uses brand-specific diagnostic systems including ISTA for BMW, XENTRY for Mercedes-Benz, ODIS for Audi and Volkswagen, VIDA for Volvo, and SDD Pathfinder for Jaguar and Land Rover. These support guided fault-finding and specialised procedures for increasingly software-driven vehicles.
“Generic scan tools may identify an error, but OE-level tools can guide the technician through the next steps. They help us understand whether the issue lies with a component, a module or the wiring, making diagnosis more systematic and accurate,” he explains.
The company also draws on external technical expertise to train its technicians, particularly for complex repairs. Online technical forums, digital resources and emerging AI tools have further improved access to repair information. Sathish notes that technicians are increasingly proactive in learning about new procedures and technologies.
Parts Sourcing and the Counterfeit Challenge
Sourcing parts for premium vehicles has become more manageable as supplier networks have expanded. Evolve Automotive works with established OEM and OES suppliers, including ZF and other recognised brands, while offering aftermarket alternatives where appropriate. According to its website, the workshop uses OEM or OEM-equivalent parts, documents fitment and shares available options with customers based on price, quality and suitability.

“Today, sourcing is not the biggest challenge because suppliers are available from Chennai and other parts of India. The real challenge is selecting the right part for the right car. If an aftermarket product repeatedly fails, we stop using it. We prefer reliable products because repeated failures create more problems for both the customer and the workshop,” he added.
Counterfeit components remain a serious concern, particularly when products imitate established international brands. Sathish points out that counterfeiters may use convincing packaging, branding and online listings to make products appear genuine. In some cases, even components packaged to resemble original equipment manufacturer products can mislead customers.
The workshop’s experience with customer-sourced components highlights the difficulty of identifying fake parts without technical knowledge. Sathish believes customer awareness and stronger checks across the supply chain are essential to address the issue.
Building Customer Trust Through Better Processes
Evolve Automotive has a Google rating of 4.7 stars, supported by more than 320 customer reviews, according to its website. The company has also used customer feedback, including negative reviews, to improve its processes. Its stated practice of providing written estimates and obtaining customer approval before work begins supports greater transparency.

One example involved a vehicle whose delivery was delayed because the washing process was not completed on time. In response, the workshop introduced clearer delivery commitments and began planning the following day’s deliveries in advance to ensure the necessary time and resources were available.
Expanding into Body Shop Services and Preparing for EVs
Looking ahead, Evolve Automotive is preparing to launch a separate body shop division focused on collision repair, repainting and related services. The company has begun investing in specialised equipment, including an aluminium dent-pulling system sourced from France, to support repairs involving aluminium body panels.
The new division will operate as a distinct brand, complementing the existing service business. Evolve Automotive plans to build its visibility through a dedicated website, social media presence and local digital marketing.

“Our plan is to develop the body shop as a separate brand because customers currently associate Evolve Automotive mainly with mechanical servicing. We are investing in the equipment and setting up the processes needed to offer specialised body repairs. We already have the space to handle more vehicles, so the focus is on building the right capabilities and growing the business,” he concluded.
While the body shop represents the company’s immediate expansion focus, Evolve Automotive is also monitoring opportunities in electric vehicle servicing. Sathish noted that many EVs remain under warranty, limiting the immediate opportunity for independent workshops. The availability of replacement parts, battery and motor servicing capabilities, and appropriately trained technicians will influence the timing of its entry.
He also highlighted the importance of access to vehicle software and diagnostic systems. In his view, access facilitated by the European Union’s right-to-repair framework has helped independent workshops obtain the information and tools needed to service modern vehicles.
