When Tata Motors launched the Sierra.ev, it was not simply introducing another electric SUV. It was showing what an electric car built for India could be — practical, powerful, and packed with technology that makes everyday life easier.

The Sierra.ev runs on Tata’s most advanced EV platform, connecting the motor, battery, chassis, and cloud systems into one intelligent unit. It supports 5G, receives over-the-air software updates, and gives access to over 70 connected applications. This is a car that keeps getting better after you buy it.
How It Looks
The front has been reworked compared to the ICE version. The body colour and black plastic sections are swapped, giving it a cleaner, grille-less appearance. The Tata logo is illuminated, and the light bar across the front doubles as a charging indicator when the car is parked. The Sierra.ev has a tall, square stance with a short bonnet, long cabin, and boxy tail — proportions that are typical of a proper SUV. The wheels sit right at the edges, giving it a wide, stable look.

On the Road
Driven at the CoASTT High Performance Centre in Coimbatore, the Sierra.ev is quick. The dual-motor all-wheel drive setup produces 504 Nm of torque and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds in Boost Mode. Six terrain modes — including Sand, Mud, Rock Crawl, and Snow — let the car adapt to different surfaces. Off-Road Assist manages the car’s speed automatically, so the driver only needs to steer. Irrespective of the road conditions, the ride quality is comfortable — potholes are absorbed well and the car feels stable at highway speeds.
Range and Charging
The 75-kWh battery is rated for over 500 km of real-world range. Fast charging takes the battery from 20 to 80% in about 26 minutes on a DC fast charger, and adds up to 263 km of range in just 15 minutes. The battery comes with a 15-year warranty with no kilometre limit for private owners. An intelligent route planner built into Android Auto tracks the car’s energy levels and recommends charging stops, making long drives less stressful. Google Maps integration shows the estimated battery level on arrival at any destination — a practical feature for planning longer trips.

Safety
A 540-degree surround view camera system shows everything around the car, including what is directly beneath it, on the infotainment screen. The L2+ ADAS suite offers 22 driver assistance features, from adaptive cruise control to lane keeping. The augmented reality heads-up display projects navigation arrows and driving information directly onto the windshield.
Inside
The rear seat is spacious. Despite the battery pack sitting underneath, the floor is only about an inch taller than the ICE version, which means passengers do not feel squeezed. Rear passengers get 973 mm of leg room. The boot holds 622 litres, expanding to 1,257 litres with the rear seats folded, and is accessible through a powered gesture tailgate. There is also a frunk — 35 litres in the all-wheel drive version and 55 litres in the rear-wheel drive — useful for storing charging cables and smaller items. The driver sits high, with a commanding view of the road.

The dashboard uses soft-touch materials in key areas, with a fabric-covered soundbar running across the front. The triple-screen layout, combined with a heads-up display, puts speed, speed limit, and navigation directions clearly in view. The panoramic glass roof — the largest in its segment — lets in plenty of light and makes the cabin feel open.
The Arcade.ev suite offers 30-plus apps for gaming, streaming, and browsing. AirConsole turns the infotainment screen into a multiplayer gaming console using smartphones as controllers — useful for charging stops with the family. Dolby Atmos sound on Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, and a SonicShaft soundbar complete the entertainment package.
Connectivity
DrivePay, India’s first in-car UPI system, lets occupants pay for charging, FASTag, food, and shopping directly from the screen or by voice. The iRA.ev app adds 70-plus intelligent features for safety, security, and daily convenience. Smartphone, NFC card, and remote keyfob access come as standard.

One feature I could not try before leaving — the Sierra.ev comes with a disc-shaped key fob that lets you summon the car out of a tight parking spot. Hold down the button and the car edges forward on its own, stopping the moment you release it.
Fit and finish could be improved, as panel gaps and plastic fitment are inconsistent in places. But the overall package is practical and capable.
The Sierra.ev handles everything a family needs — daily city commutes, weekend getaways, and long highway drives — without asking them to compromise on space, comfort, or performance. Every journey. Every terrain. Every mood.
