Tata Motors Launches Altroz iCNG AMT At ₹8.69 Lakh

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has introduced the AMT variant of the Tata Altroz iCNG, making it the first and only premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain.

Priced at ₹8.69 lakh, the new Altroz iCNG AMT expands the model’s multi-powertrain portfolio while targeting customers seeking the fuel efficiency of CNG combined with the convenience of automatic driving, particularly in urban conditions.

The company said the launch comes at a time when CNG adoption in India continues to rise rapidly, with penetration increasing from 19% in FY25 to 22% in FY26, driven by expanding demand beyond traditional markets.

Commenting on the introduction, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said, the Altroz has consistently set benchmarks in the premium hatchback segment through its emphasis on design, safety and diverse powertrain options.

“With the introduction of AMT in the iCNG line-up, we are addressing a clear and growing customer need for greater convenience in CNG vehicles. This addition makes Altroz the most versatile and premium offering in its segment, delivering the right balance of efficiency, ease of driving and everyday practicality, without compromising on space or safety,” he stated.

The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine producing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm in CNG mode. The addition of AMT is aimed at improving drivability and offering a smoother driving experience in city traffic.

The model features a single advanced ECU that enables seamless switching between petrol and CNG modes. It also retains the segment-first direct start in CNG mode, allowing the vehicle to start directly in CNG without requiring a petrol start-up.

One of the key highlights continues to be Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder iCNG technology, where the cylinders are positioned beneath the luggage compartment. This layout allows the Altroz iCNG to offer a usable 210-litre boot space, addressing one of the major compromises typically associated with CNG vehicles. Petrol and diesel variants continue to offer 345 litres of boot capacity.

In terms of design, the Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the styling cues of the updated Altroz range, including flush door handles, infinity connected LED tail lamps, LED headlamps with DRLs and a premium cabin layout.

The interior features executive lounge-style rear seats, a soft-touch Grand Prestigia dashboard, ambient lighting and twin 26.03 cm digital screens for instrumentation and infotainment sourced from HARMAN.

On the safety front, the Altroz continues to be built on Tata Motors’ ALFA architecture using ultra-high-strength steel. The hatchback carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel and CNG variants.

Safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ISOFIX child seat mounts and reverse parking sensors as standard. Higher-end features include a 360-degree HD surround view system, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps and LED fog lamps.

Since its launch, the Altroz has established itself as one of the few premium hatchbacks in India to offer petrol, diesel and CNG powertrain choices. The company noted that it remains the only hatchback in the country to offer a diesel engine and was also the first in its segment to introduce twin-cylinder iCNG technology.
