Mahindra Racing commits to GEN4 Formula E, unveils new M12Electro in India

Mahindra Racing has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, announcing that it will participate as a manufacturer in the upcoming GEN4 era beginning with the 2026–27 season. The announcement was made during a special showcase in India, where the team also unveiled its new race car, the Mahindra M12Electro.

This move extends Mahindra’s deep association with Formula E, which began in 2013 when it became both a founding team and the first OEM to commit to the all-electric championship. Over the past 12 years, Mahindra Racing has emerged as one of the series’ most recognised and competitive teams, securing five E-Prix victories, 29 podiums, 11 pole positions, and more than 1,000 championship points.

The renewed commitment follows an impressive turnaround over the last 18 months under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand. A re-engineered M11Electro helped propel the team from the back of the grid to regular podium contention in Season 11, with drivers Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara together scoring five podium finishes and helping the team achieve a strong fourth place in the World Championship.

Building on that momentum, Mahindra Racing has now revealed the M12Electro, the successor to the M11Electro, designed to keep the team firmly in the battle for frequent podiums and retain its top-five standing this season. The team’s long-term vision is to continue climbing the competitive ladder, chase incremental performance gains, and strengthen its position as a genuine World Championship contender against leading global manufacturers such as Porsche, Jaguar, and Nissan.

The FIA’s recently released technical specifications for GEN4 promise a dramatic leap in performance. The next-generation cars will offer 450 kW of peak race power, an aggressive 600 kW ATTACK MODE for overtakes, 700 kW of regenerative braking, and up to 55 kWh of usable race energy. In another first, GEN4 cars will feature both high-downforce and low-downforce aerodynamic setups and will be built using 100% recyclable materials—reinforcing Formula E’s position as the world’s most sustainable motorsport and aligning closely with the Mahindra Group’s sustainability goals.

Mahindra Racing views Formula E as a powerful testbed where cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and high-performance engineering converge. The team continues to use learnings from the racetrack to influence broader mobility solutions across markets.

Mahindra Racing was also the first team in Formula E to earn the FIA’s prestigious Three-Star Accreditation for sustainability—a distinction it continues to uphold as it embarks on the next chapter of its electric racing journey.
