Toyota Opens ‘tem’ in Bengaluru — A First-of-its-Kind Experiential Museum Blending Indian Mindfulness and Japanese Culture

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has unveiled tem (Toyota Experiential Museum), a one-of-a-kind cultural and lifestyle space that brings together Indian philosophy, Japanese aesthetics, and Toyota’s advanced technology under a single roof. Located at Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru, tem is designed as a sensory and reflective escape — a place where mobility transcends machines and becomes an experience of art, culture, and mindfulness.

Spread across 8,200 sq. ft on the mall’s ground floor, tem is built around a five-senses experience. Visitors are welcomed into a space filled with minimalist Japanese design softened with Indian warmth, combining visuals, sounds, scents, textures, and flavours to create an atmosphere of calm and curiosity.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Tadashi Asazuma, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “At Toyota, our vision of creating ‘Happier Paths Together’ goes beyond mobility — it is about inspiring experiences that connect people, cultures, and emotions. With tem, we hope to offer a truly unique space that embodies this spirit. In India, we found inspiration in the practice of Sādhanā — the mindful pursuit of balance and fulfilment. tem blends Sādhanā with Japanese values of precision, serenity, and respect for nature, creating a meaningful cultural bridge, especially for today’s youth.”

A sensory journey through culture, technology, and art

Inside tem, visitors are encouraged to slow down and explore at their own pace. The space features immersive rooms, an exclusive merchandise zone, and an interactive Matcha Corner — forming a seamless journey of reflection and rejuvenation.

A walk through the seasons:
The experience begins with a mirrored pathway where India and Japan’s shared love for nature comes alive. Infinite projections recreate the warmth of summer, the gentleness of monsoon rain, the bloom of spring, and the colours of autumn, using light and movement to create an enveloping illusion of changing seasons.

A fusion of sound and spirit:
Visitors then enter an audio-visual collaboration between Toyota and Japan’s world-renowned DRUM TAO. The installation blends rhythm, energy, and cultural harmony, turning music into a shared language of expression between the two countries.

A moment of serenity:
One of the highlights is a striking art installation — a cascading water curtain surrounding a satin-draped car. The gentle mist, shimmering reflections, and rhythmic flow of water create a calm, almost ethereal environment that celebrates movement and stillness at once.

Design Café: Merchandise that celebrates craftsmanship

The Merchandise Zone offers a curated collection that goes beyond souvenirs. Each item blends traditional aesthetics with contemporary utility, allowing visitors to carry home a piece of tem’s philosophy — simplicity, craftsmanship, and cultural harmony.

tem Café: Matcha meets India

At the Matcha Corner, Japanese tea culture is reimagined with Indian flavours. From traditional matcha to fusion blends like mango-infused matcha, the café creates a fresh, cross-cultural taste experience that mirrors the spirit of tem.

With tem, Toyota steps beyond conventional automotive expression, offering a space where design, culture, technology, and mindfulness converge. The museum underscores the company’s belief that mobility is not just about vehicles — it is about inspiring journeys, meaningful connections, and shared cultural experiences.
