Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a major production milestone with the WagonR crossing 35 lakh units of cumulative production in India across three generations. The achievement underlines the long-standing trust and emotional connect the model enjoys with Indian customers since its launch in December 1999. With this, the WagonR joins the Alto and Swift in the elite club of Maruti Suzuki models to surpass the 35 lakh mark.

Currently manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurgaon and Manesar facilities in Haryana, the WagonR has remained a consistent favourite for over 25 years. Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the achievement reflects the enduring love and confidence shown by customers over generations. He noted that the WagonR has continuously evolved with new technology and features while staying true to its original DNA, which includes the iconic tall-boy design, spacious interiors and strong fuel efficiency.

Since its debut, the WagonR has seen multiple milestones, including the introduction of LPG and CNG variants, the launch of its second and third generations, and the addition of features such as Auto Gear Shift, dual airbags and ABS. The model has consistently adapted to changing customer expectations while maintaining its core strengths.
Globally, the Suzuki WagonR was first introduced in Japan in 1993 and has since been manufactured in countries including Japan, India, Hungary and Indonesia. It is now sold in over 75 countries and regions worldwide. In August 2025, global cumulative sales of the Suzuki WagonR crossed the 1 crore unit mark.
In India, the latest WagonR is built on Suzuki’s fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and comes with six airbags as standard, along with ABS with EBD and Electronic Stability Program. It also offers modern comfort and connectivity features such as a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Notably, the WagonR has been India’s highest-selling car for the last four financial years, reinforcing its status as one of the country’s most successful and enduring automotive nameplates.
