Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group and one of the country’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, has received a major order for 1,937 buses from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TNSTU). This milestone further cements Ashok Leyland’s leadership in India’s bus segment and reinforces its decades-long association with the Tamil Nadu government.
With over 21,000 Ashok Leyland buses already serving in the TNSTU fleet, the new order includes a mix of fully built and chassis configurations designed for town, mofussil, and SETC operations. The vehicles, built on AIS 153-compliant chassis platforms, will feature the company’s advanced iGen6 BS VI technology, ensuring higher safety, performance, and reliability.

The new Viking and SETC models offer improved power delivery, better ride comfort, and advanced safety features such as electronic stability control and auto transmission for urban low-floor variants. These buses will also support advanced Intelligent Transport Management Systems (ITMS) with upgraded batteries and alternators.
