Mahindra Launches Thar OG, Reimagined Version of Its Iconic SUV

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India’s leading SUV manufacturer, today launched the Thar OG, a complete reimagination of India’s most iconic lifestyle SUV. Starting at ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the Thar OG succeeds the three-door Thar unveiled in 2020, which created an entirely new category and one of the most passionate automotive communities in the country.

Since its inception, the Thar has evolved from being just an SUV into an Indian icon, inspiring a unique “Thar Life” built around exploration, freedom, and self-expression. Embodying the spirit to “Explore the Impossible,” the Thar OG carries forward everything enthusiasts love about the icon while elevating its design, capability, and everyday usability.

He said the Thar OG, built on the advanced M_Glyde 4G platform, features technologies including DAVINCI Damping, Rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, Electronic Locking Differential, and Electric Power Steering, delivering the best ride quality, handling, stability, and driving confidence ever offered in a Thar, while preserving its authentic capability and rugged character.

Mr. Pratap Bose, Chief Design & Creative Officer, Auto & Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said designing the Thar OG was never about reinventing an icon, but making it even more Thar, preserving its authentic, boxy attitude and unmistakable silhouette while evolving it for a new generation through elements like the new grille, circular LED headlamps, signature C-shaped DRLs, and new R19 alloys.

Mr. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said the Thar has evolved far beyond being an SUV into an icon representing freedom, adventure, and a way of life, with the Thar OG taking everything customers love about the Thar and elevating it further through enhanced ride comfort, driving dynamics, and capability.

The Thar OG is built on the stiffer M_Glyde 4G platform for confident on-road and off-road driving, featuring Rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, DAVINCI Damping technology for a plush ride, Electric Power Steering for effortless manoeuvring, and enhanced NVH damping for a refined cabin. On capability, it gets an Electronic Locking Differential and purpose-built Terrain Modes for mud, sand, and snow, alongside more powerful versions of its existing petrol and diesel powertrains.

On design, the SUV features a bold new grille, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, new rugged bumpers, R19 alloy wheels, LED ice-cube fog lamps with cornering lamps, new LED taillamps, Truffle Brown leatherette seats, and two new colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, alongside six existing shades. On safety, the Thar OG comes equipped with 6 airbags, including 4 first-in-segment HPTS airbags for front and rear passenger protection, all-four disc brakes, a comprehensive ESP 9.3 suite, and front parking sensors.
