Amazon India has announced plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks in collaboration with VE Commercial Vehicles’s Eicher Trucks and Buses business, marking one of India’s largest dedicated electric truck deployments in the ecommerce and quick commerce sectors. The move is aimed at strengthening Amazon Now’s rapidly expanding operations while accelerating the company’s sustainable transportation strategy.

As part of the partnership, VECV has developed the Eicher Pro X, a compact electric truck specifically designed for high-frequency intra-city logistics operations. The trucks will be used to transport goods between Amazon’s fulfilment centres located on city outskirts and micro-fulfilment centres positioned closer to customers for faster deliveries.
Amazon has already deployed nearly 50 of these electric trucks and plans to scale the fleet to over 1,000 units by 2028. The vehicles are expected to operate across major cities including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai, supporting Amazon Now’s growing quick commerce network that delivers groceries, personal care products, electronic accessories and other daily essentials within minutes.
The electric trucks are expected to cover 100–180 km daily while handling multiple trips between facilities. With a fast-charging time of around 50 minutes, the fleet is being positioned to support high-utilisation urban logistics operations.
Recently, Amazon announced plans to expand Amazon Now to 100 cities across India and increase its network to more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres. The expansion will include cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore and Visakhapatnam.
Mr. Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India and Australia, said the company continues to deepen its focus on sustainable mobility and has already deployed more than 12,000 electric vehicles across India. He added that Amazon is working closely with multiple OEM partners to develop solutions tailored to its operational requirements and that the deployment of purpose-built Volvo Eicher electric trucks marks another important milestone in that journey.
Mr. SS Gill, Chief Commercial Officer, VECV, said the collaboration represents a significant step towards sustainable logistics solutions. He noted that the Eicher Pro X electric truck was co-developed with Amazon to specifically address the operational demands of ecommerce and quick commerce applications, enabling efficient, scalable and reliable transportation solutions.
Amazon and VECV have been collaborating since 2022 to develop electric trucks suited for Indian ecommerce operations. In 2025, Amazon had already deployed over 100 electric trucks with multiple automakers across cities including Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata as part of its broader transportation decarbonisation strategy.
With over 12,500 electric vehicles already operating across more than 500 Indian cities, Amazon remains among the earliest and largest adopters of electric mobility in India’s logistics and ecommerce ecosystem.
