The Cyberster pairs nostalgia with modern excitement, offering performance and practicality in one package—making it as fun on weekday commutes as it is on weekend escapes.
JSW MG Motor India has ignited excitement in the performance-EV world as its electric Cyberster soared to the top of India’s sports-car charts in 2025. In just six months, the model crossed 500 units in sales — a notable feat that also pushed the brand’s premium channel, MG SELECT, to the second spot in the country’s luxury EV segment. Riding this wave of enthusiasm, the company recently introduced a striking new colour, Irises Cyan, crafted to highlight the car’s flowing lines and bold, sculpted form. This made me check out the new shade option.

On a warm, sunny afternoon, I walked into MG SELECT in Chennai to check out the MG Cyberster in its new Irises Cyan shade — the colour everyone has been talking about. Before I could even explain why I was there, two women from the showroom team greeted me with a smile and immediately offered me a menu of hot and cold drinks—cappuccino, Americano and more—almost like stepping into a boutique hotel rather than a car dealership. That small gesture set the tone. The place felt less like a typical showroom and more like a curated experience designed for people who enjoy attention to detail. In many ways, MG SELECT seems to be redefining what premium car retail looks like in India, balancing everyday practicality with a touch of luxury.
The first time someone walks up to the MG Cyberster, they may not feel like they’re seeing a completely new car. For many car lovers, it feels more like meeting an old name from another era—something they’ve heard about in stories or seen in classic photos. The Cyberster carries that legacy without shouting about it. Inspired by the iconic MG Roadsters of the 1960s, it brings those memories into a new century, now wrapped in electric power, sharp styling and modern technology.

As I circled the car, the first thing that struck me was how unmistakably modern it looked. The new shade adds a touch of glamour and quietly stands out with its distinctive, appealing colour. Designed by Marco Fainello—whose past work included shaping cars for Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari team—the Cyberster is a masterclass in turning aerodynamics into art. The boot’s flowing “Kammback” design replaces the need for a rear spoiler, the lines are clean and athletic, and a deep piano-black finish runs seamlessly around the surface, giving the car a unified, sculpted presence. With an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.269 Cd, it feels engineered to slice through the air even while standing still.
Then came the moment everyone talks about: the doors. The Cyberster is the only car in India with fully electric scissor doors, and they open in a dramatic way that makes people stop and look. Whether triggered from the key fob or the buttons inside, they rise silently and elegantly. You can even adjust the angle and height—something you don’t realise is addictive until you start playing with it. Yet there’s practicality too: a manual override is built in for emergencies.

Step inside, and the mood changes from excitement to pure focus. The cabin feels like a cockpit—three digital screens arc across the driver’s view, with crisp navigation, car stats and a 360-degree camera popping up effortlessly. The high-end finishes with vegan leather and Dinamica suede seats feel softer than expected for a sports car, with memory functions and lumbar support that make daily driving surprisingly comfortable.
The convertible roof adds a layer of charm. With a quick 12-second motion, it folds away even at speeds up to 45 km/h. Despite being a soft-top, it’s fully waterproof, courtesy – advanced stitching developed for heavy rain—helpful for unpredictable Indian weather. Even more practical is the 360-litre boot that stays the same whether the roof is up or down, thanks to its dedicated storage panel.
But the Cyberster is still, at heart, an electric sports car. Under the sleek shell sits a dual-motor setup pushing out 510 bhp and 725 Nm of torque. Power is split 60:40 towards the rear, giving it the right balance for spirited driving. A 50:50 weight distribution keeps the car planted when braking hard or swinging through a corner, and the Pirelli P Zero tyres (with asymmetric tread pattern) —wide 245s in the front and 275s at the back—hold the road with confidence, improving braking performance and enhances handling and control. Even with its low 116 mm ground clearance, the short wheelbase helps it climb over speed breakers without scraping.
On open roads, Sport Mode sharpens everything, while “Super Sport” on the steering wheel unlocks launch control for that instant electric surge. There’s also a clever feature: the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). It recharges the battery every time you slow down, turning that motion into electricity. It adds a bit more range, saves the brake pads, and feels like something straight out of a race car. On the opposite end of the driving spectrum, One-Pedal Drive makes crawling through traffic a breeze.
Charging is equally straightforward: a 7.4 kW home charger takes around eight to nine hours for a full recharge, while a 140 kW DC fast charger takes the battery from 10% to 80% in about 35–40 minutes. The battery itself carries a 15-year warranty, with features built in to optimise charging cycles and maintain long-term health. In addition to mandatory safety features, the sports car is supported by Level 2 ADAS, real-time driver monitoring and a full suite of braking and stability systems.
A BOSE 8-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel and dozens of ambient lighting combinations make the cabin feel more premium than traditional roadsters ever attempted to be.
After spending time with the Cyberster—opening those doors, exploring the cockpit, switching between modes and testing its comfort—it becomes clear that JSW MG isn’t just revived an old name. It redefined what a modern two-seater sports EV can be.
