Hyundai CRETA Crosses 2 Lakh Annual Sales

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has achieved a landmark milestone with its best-selling mid-size SUV, the Hyundai CRETA, recording its highest-ever annual sales of two lakh units in a single calendar year. The achievement translates to an average of nearly 550 CRETAs sold every day, underlining the model’s strong market pull and its continued dominance in one of India’s most competitive automotive segments.

This milestone coincides with the completion of 10 years of the CRETA brand in India, a journey that has seen the SUV not only lead the segment it helped create but also grow consistently despite the entry of several new rivals. Between 2016 and 2025, the CRETA registered a healthy compound annual growth rate of over 9%, while maintaining a commanding market share of more than 34% in the mid-size SUV category.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO designate of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said the CRETA’s journey in India has been exceptional, with the 2-lakh annual sales milestone marking a proud moment for the company. He noted that the CRETA has also been the highest-selling SUV in the country on a cumulative basis between 2020 and 2025. Over the past decade, the model has evolved from being a capable SUV to a trusted companion for Indian families, with its customer base expanding significantly over the years.

Mr. Garg highlighted changing customer preferences, pointing out that first-time buyers now account for 32% of CRETA customers in 2025, up sharply from 13% in 2020. Aspirations have also moved up the value chain, with sunroof-equipped variants contributing more than 70% of total CRETA sales this year. Diesel models continue to remain relevant, accounting for a strong 44% share of the SUV’s overall volumes. He expressed gratitude to customers and dealer partners for making CRETA a symbol of Hyundai’s trust, innovation and commitment in India.

Since its introduction, the Hyundai CRETA has consistently emerged as the highest-selling mid-size SUV in every completed year, cementing its position as a segment benchmark. Its success has been driven by a wide choice of powertrains and transmissions, including a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine with manual and IVT options, a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel with manual and automatic gearboxes, a 1.5-litre turbo GDi petrol with manual and DCT, and now an electric version as well. With the availability of both ICE and EV variants, the CRETA offers customers flexibility, performance and future-ready technology in a single nameplate.
