Makita Power Tools India Pvt. Ltd. made its debut in the automotive garage segment at the recent exhibition, presenting a new lineup of torque-controlled tools and an expanded range of hand tools designed specifically for workshops and service centres. According to G. Irrusappan, Key Accounts Manager – Automotive & MRO, the company, already a trusted supplier of assembly tools to leading OEMs across South India, is now positioning itself to support the fast-evolving garage ecosystem with advanced solutions.
“This is our first time participating in an automotive garage exhibition. We have long supplied high-quality assembly tools to OEMs like Nissan, BMW, Caterpillar, Hyundai and Toyota. Now we want to bring the same level of precision to garages. Torque-controlled tools are still limited in the power tools segment. We are filling that gap with our new offerings. We are also introducing a fresh range of Makita hand tools for mechanics. These products are designed for durability and accuracy. Our aim is to support the growing needs of the workshop industry,” he said.
One of the major shifts Makita anticipates in the Indian service landscape is the rapid adoption of cordless tools. Irrusappan emphasised that the transition away from pneumatic tools will significantly boost efficiency and ease of use for technicians.

“Cordless tools are going to dominate the market in the next two to three years. Workshops that currently rely on pneumatic systems will experience faster and cleaner operations with cordless alternatives. These tools help complete tasks more quickly and with greater flexibility. The entire garage segment is moving in this direction. We want mechanics to adopt this new generation of equipment. Cordless technology will redefine productivity in the workshop. Makita is fully prepared to lead this shift,” he explained.
Makita also highlighted the strength of its nationwide service ecosystem, which remains one of the company’s biggest advantages for professional users.
“We have close to 500 service centres across India. This ensures that any garage investing in Makita tools receives complete after-sales support. Our network is not limited to Coimbatore but covers all major regions. We make sure our machines operate reliably throughout their life cycle. Customers can access repairs and maintenance quickly. This service infrastructure sets us apart in the industry. It gives users confidence in long-term tool performance,” he stated.

Focusing specifically on South India, Makita plans to accelerate its growth by combining improved accessibility with strong value.
“South India is a key focus market for us. We will expand aggressively in this region
by offering competitive pricing without compromising on quality. Our goal is to make advanced tools more accessible to garages. Better pricing and higher quality will drive our growth strategy. We want to empower workshops to upgrade their equipment. This region has strong potential for premium tool adoption. We are committed to supporting that progress,” he said.
With its new product lineup and strengthened market strategy, Makita is set to play a significant role in elevating tool standards across India’s automotive service industry.
