SRMPR Showcases Innovative Bus Models at Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0

At the recently held Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 in Chennai, SRMPR drew attention with the unveiling of three distinct products: a new seat-cum-sleeper coach, a fully customised caravan, and a college staff bus. All three builds are based on Eicher chassis with a 5200 mm wheelbase and 12-meter length, underscoring the company’s production expertise and versatility in meeting niche requirements.

Radhakrishnan, General Manager – Production, SRMPR, shared insights on the new launches. “We’ve reintroduced the seat-cum-sleeper after a long time. The full-sleeper segment also remains strong, with demand growing steadily,” he said. The newly developed caravan was a passion project initiated by our chairman Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu.

The company operates from a 10-acre plant located at Kandigai in Chennai, equipped with advanced infrastructure, including a paint booth, large production yard, jigs and fixtures, and other fabrication tools to handle volume-based output. The plant has a current capacity to build 30 buses per month.

SRMPR Autotec focus on structural integrity and quality finishing continues to differentiate it in a competitive market. “Our priority is rigid structure and excellent paint finish. These are areas where we never compromise,” Radhakrishnan stated.

Despite challenges during the COVID era, SRMPR Autotec managed to bounce back with a production figure of around 250 buses last year. With increasing demand in the sleeper segment—currently split at approximately 40% sleeper and 60% seater – the company has set an ambitious target of producing 500 buses this fiscal.

In addition to catering to the SRM Group’s in-house requirements, SRMPR Autotec also serves private operators and participates in state-level tenders. Past projects include buses built for the Telangana government.

Looking ahead, the company is gearing up to complete 50 buses within the next 60 days, with all chassis already in place. “Our vehicles are not only aesthetic but built for real-world road conditions. We aim for durability, design appeal and modern features.”
