Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced that 100 young trainees from India will travel to Japan to participate in Toyota Motor Corporation’s Global Skill-Up Training (GST) program, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing globally competitive talent. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission and the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), a bilateral skilling and talent exchange framework between India and Japan.

The 11-month programme combines classroom learning with intensive on-the-job training at Toyota’s manufacturing facilities in Japan. Trainees will be immersed in Toyota’s core work philosophies and gain hands-on experience in manufacturing excellence, problem solving, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The curriculum also includes Japanese language and cultural orientation to prepare participants for global work environments.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Dr. Sharanaprakash Rudrappa Patil, Minister for Skill Development, Government of Karnataka, and Ms. Sonal Mishra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), along with senior leaders from Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
G. Shankara, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, “We are deeply committed to nurturing globally competitive talent from India. This programme is not just about skilling, but about shaping future-ready professionals who embody Toyota’s values of excellence and respect.”
Dr. Patil praised the initiative, stating that it supports Karnataka’s vision of developing world-class skilled talent. Ms. Sonal Mishra added that the TITP program strengthens India’s position as a reliable global source of skilled manpower.
TKM is approved by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as a Sending Organization and has already facilitated overseas training for over 1,000 youth across Japan, Jordan, Qatar, and Slovakia.
Toyota’s broader skilling ecosystem — including Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Toyota Kaushalya, and initiatives under the Toyota India Center of Excellence — has trained more than 1,40,000 youth in India. The company also supports more than 100 ITIs in Karnataka through faculty training, infrastructure development, and culture-building programs.
Driven by its vision of “Grow India and Grow with India,” Toyota Kirloskar continues to champion the “Rural to Global” transformation by creating skilled professionals who contribute to industry and society while elevating India’s role in global value chains.
