Aptiv Unveils Gen 8 Radar Platform to Power Next-Gen ADAS and AI-Driven Mobility

Aptiv PLC, a global technology company enabling a safer, greener, and more connected future, has unveiled its most advanced radar platform yet—its Generation 8 (Gen 8) radars. Designed to meet the evolving needs of future advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), the new radars combine Aptiv’s proprietary antenna and silicon design to deliver best-in-class performance and high-resolution sensing tailored for AI- and machine learning–driven vehicle intelligence.

Engineered for hands-free driving in complex urban environments, Aptiv’s Gen 8 radars offer superior perception and cost efficiency through both front-facing and corner radar units. These systems redefine how vehicles interpret their surroundings, ensuring reliable detection and response even in challenging real-world conditions such as heavy rain, glare, or dense traffic.

Complementing the new radar platform is the Aptiv PULSE Sensor—an innovation that fuses radar and camera data in a compact, versatile package. The PULSE Sensor integrates ultra short-range radar with a surround-view camera to replace up to four ultrasonic sensors, improving detection precision while lowering system complexity and cost. Its adaptability extends beyond automotive applications, making it equally effective for drones, robotics, and other industrial sensing systems.

Mr. Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Software, Advanced Safety and User Experience at Aptiv, said the company is once again setting benchmarks in automotive radar technology. “Our Gen 8 radars mark a major step forward in the journey toward intelligent, software-defined vehicles—delivering all-weather reliability, 4D perception, and deep environmental awareness that enable global automakers to safely and cost-effectively scale to higher levels of automation,” he stated.

Building on over 25 years of radar expertise, Aptiv’s latest generation combines proprietary hardware and software IP to achieve significant improvements in sensing performance and range. The forward radar provides long-range detection beyond 300 metres with ultra-fine 4D angular resolution, enhancing classification of static obstacles. The dual-mode corner radar, meanwhile, boosts resolution and discrimination for low-speed manoeuvres such as automated parking, AEB, and object avoidance.

The Gen 8 platform also doubles the number of channels compared to the previous generation, increasing detection count, improving accuracy, and supporting real-time mapping of drivable space. With superior 4D angular resolution, it enables radar-only classification of over- and under-drivable static objects and provides continuous, high-quality data to AI systems for smarter decision-making.

By integrating these capabilities, Aptiv’s Gen 8 radars and PULSE Sensor strengthen the company’s expanding perception technology portfolio. Together, they advance the company’s vision for software-defined, scalable safety systems that not only empower next-generation ADAS and autonomous driving but also open pathways for cross-industry innovation in robotics and intelligent mobility.
