At Automechanika Frankfurt 2024, Schaeffler India’s Vice President of Vehicle Lifetime Solutions, Arbind Singh, shared Schaeffler’s strategic plans with Rajesh Rajgor. With the global shift toward electrification, Schaeffler is focusing on enhancing aftermarket services that support both traditional and electric drivetrains, emphasizing their commitment to seamless customer support.
“Schaeffler is a global player deeply rooted in IC engine technology, but we are looking ahead to emerging markets and future trends in EVs,” Arbind shared. “We want to stay ahead, ready with technology that meets customer demands, whether in traditional or future propulsion systems.”
Schaeffler’s presence at the event highlighted three product areas: established ICE products, adaptable chassis components, and advanced technologies tailored for EVs. Their thermal management systems stand out, as they are designed to regulate both ICE and EV temperatures. This functionality is critical for electric drivetrains, where battery systems generate significant heat. “Our pumps and thermal management systems maintain optimal temperatures in EVs, supporting efficient battery performance,” Arbind explained.
Driving Trust with Quality and Innovation
The conversation also touched on the increasing popularity of European cars in India. According to Arbind, improved service availability has encouraged more Indian buyers to consider European models. Schaeffler’s localized service network now provides dedicated support, including maintenance kits for specific models, which helps customers minimize repair costs.
As India’s automotive market grows, Schaeffler’s offerings include the Schaeffler TruPower brand, a line of consumables introduced in 2020. This brand allows Schaeffler to reach a broader audience, offering visible products like lubricants and wipers. While their core business remains in transmission, chassis, and engine components, Schaeffler TruPower adds to Schaeffler’s brand visibility and reach. “Schaeffler TruPower complements our core products by providing consumables that customers can see and trust, reinforcing our brand in India,” said Arbind.
To support India’s expanding CV and tractor segments, Schaeffler’s Vehicle Lifetime Solution division manages aftermarket services and delivers high-quality parts. “The agriculture segment is booming, and we’ve seen the demand for tractors skyrocket,” noted Arbind. “Indian farmers value quality products; we’re providing them with durable solutions that meet their needs.”
With EVs, Schaeffler is also focusing on future-ready components, such as steering and suspension systems that are essential regardless of drivetrain type. The company’s expertise in transmission and dual-mass flywheels remains central to their offerings. “Our core competencies remain in high-demand products like bearings and steering components, which are essential in both ICE and EV platforms,” Arbind explained, highlighting Schaeffler’s dedication to refining existing technologies while developing EV-compatible innovations.
Empowering Mechanics, Driving Innovation
Training is another cornerstone of Schaeffler’s strategy. Schaeffler’s REPXPERT Mobile Training Van program in India has already trained over 8,000 mechanics in new technologies for passenger and commercial vehicles. This hands-on training ensures in elevating repair standards at their garages and workshops and making them equipped to handle complex applications. “We’re not only providing products but empowering the entire ecosystem with knowledge and skills,” Arbind stated.
With a balanced focus on traditional strengths and forward-looking strategies, Schaeffler is committed to supporting India’s automotive transition. “Our focus remains on our core strengths in transmission, chassis, and engine components,” said Arbind. “At the same time, Schaeffler TruPower range of Lubricants and Wiper Blades and new EV-compatible products expand our brand visibility and customer reach.”
As the automotive landscape transforms, Schaeffler’s combination of innovative products, robust service support, and knowledge sharing places them at the forefront of both ICE and EV markets. Through careful planning and technology adaptation, they are ready to meet India’s evolving needs and remain a trusted partner for both vehicle manufacturers and consumers alike.
