Knorr-Bremse presented with Innovation Award in the “Parts & Technology Solutions” category

The global market leader for braking systems and other rail and commercial vehicle systems, was presented with the Automechanika Frankfurt trade fair’s Innovation Award in the “Parts & Technology Solutions” category. The award-winning solution, Knorr-Bremse’s brake drag torque reduction system, supports the controlled release of brake pads from brake disc to minimize friction. By actively reducing the brake drag torque of commercial vehicle brakes, the system helps to cut the carbon emissions, fuel consumption and particulate pollution associated with brake pad wear.

According to Bernd Spies, Member of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG and responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Systems division: “The Innovation Award from Automechanika Frankfurt represents a further endorsement of Knorr-Bremse’s technology and innovation leadership, as well as a major success for our team. We’re delighted! Our brake drag torque reduction system helps to cut fuel consumption by as much as one percent, whether making urban deliveries or transporting goods over long distances.”

In the words of Andreas Wimmer, Member of the Management Board of Knorr-Bremse Commercial Vehicle Systems: “We’re really pleased to pick up yet another Innovation Award. Our brake drag torque reduction system has been successfully operating in the OEM market since 2021, in the shape of our Active Caliper Release (ACR) system. Going forward, we’ll be making it available for retrofitting to our most popular disc brake systems.”

This year’s Automechanika Innovation Awards were presented in a total of eight categories. Entries for the Innovation Awards are judged on the solution’s levels of innovation and excellence, functionality, ease of use, user benefits, efficiency, aftermarket relevance, safety, durability and quality, as well as its contribution to climate and environmental protection, resource efficiency and sustainability. Knorr-Bremse previously won an Innovation Award at Automechanika 2018 for its electronic air control (EAC) system, which also scooped the special Green Award at that year’s trade show.
