Marelli, a global automotive supplier, and Microchip Technology have announced a joint solution that enables graphics and video content generated by a vehicle’s central computer to be streamed directly to automotive displays using ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML) — an open standard for automotive video connectivity defined by the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA).

The solution helps vehicle makers simplify display architectures, optimise system costs, and increase sourcing flexibility, while supporting the transition towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs). In the joint demonstrator, graphics and video content generated by the vehicle’s central computer are processed and transmitted through Microchip’s VS7000 ASA-ML chipset over a high-speed standardised link. Marelli handles the display-side integration, enabling the configuration and optimisation of the ASA-ML deserialiser to decode standardised video streams — including camera feeds, navigation maps, infotainment graphics, and vehicle control interfaces — directly at the display.

Key features of the solution include open interoperability across cockpit systems and displays from multiple technology providers, integrated link-layer security with authentication and encryption, lossless data transmission with high immunity to electromagnetic noise, scalable data rates of up to 16 Gbps, and optimised power efficiency through embedded Time Division Duplex functionality. The solution also provides a clear path towards increasingly Ethernet-centric vehicle architectures.
