The Tata Safari moves forward without losing its soul, blending performance, comfort and smart technology.

For over two decades, the Tata Safari has been known as a strong, comfortable SUV built for long journeys across all kinds of roads. Now, the vehicle enters its next chapter with a renewed focus on performance with petrol powertrain, technology and a distinctly sporty character, while staying rooted in the legacy that has defined it for 27 years.
At the heart of this evolution is the new 1.5-litre HYPERION Turbo GDi petrol engine. Designed to deliver both power and efficiency, the engine produces 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Advanced technologies such as an electronically actuated variable geometry turbocharger and high-pressure gasoline direct injection operating at 350 bar ensure strong performance across driving conditions. At the same time, AI and machine-learning based systems like Smart Shift Assist and Launch Assist help optimise power delivery and fuel efficiency in real-world use .
Despite the added performance, the Safari has also become lighter, with an 80-kg weight reduction in petrol variants. This not only sharpens driving dynamics but also contributes to fuel efficiency. A high compression ratio combined with a Miller combustion cycle and an intelligent lubrication system further enhances long-term efficiency and reliability.
Driving the Safari through Faridabad, near Delhi, I could clearly feel how comfort and refinement define the overall experience, even in everyday traffic conditions and on highways. Extensive work has gone into reducing noise, vibration and harshness, using a stiffened engine block, integrated ladder frame, acoustic timing cover and high-density sound-absorption materials. These efforts are backed by rigorous validation, including over 15 lakh kilometres of real-world testing and more than 10,000 hours of test-bed development across extreme climates and terrains in India.
Step inside, and the Safari’s transformation becomes even more apparent. The new Carnelian Red interior theme adds a bold, performance-inspired feel to the cabin. Benecke Kaliko leatherette seats, a Steel Black dashboard and carefully crafted accents create a space that feels both premium and sporty. On the outside, Blackstone R19 alloy wheels with red brake callipers and the deep “Carbon Black” exterior colour give the Safari a strong, athletic presence that matches its road stance.
Technology plays a defining role in this new Safari. The centrepiece is the 36.9-cm Harman cinematic infotainment screen powered by Samsung Neo QLED technology. Combined with a Dolby Atmos-enabled audio system and 10 JBL speakers, the cabin delivers a true theatre-like experience. Passengers can access streaming apps through the Arcade App Suite, transforming long journeys into immersive entertainment experiences.
Everyday convenience has also been elevated. Features such as IntelliStart with Climate Sync allow the cabin to be pre-cooled before occupants step in, while voice-assisted controls manage the panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and mood lighting. Connected technologies like iRA 2.0, built-in navigation with Mappls Auto, Alexa Home-to-Car connectivity and a digital IRVM with built-in dashcam bring modern, connected living into the Safari experience.
Comfort extends across all rows. Ventilated seats for the front and second row, powered driver and co-driver seats with memory and boss mode, winged headrests, sliding armrests and second-row sun blinds ensure that every passenger travels in ease, whether on city roads or highways. A gesture-controlled powered tailgate and a 360-degree surround camera system further simplify daily usability.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the Safari identity. The SUV is rated five stars under Bharat NCAP and comes equipped with Level 2+ ADAS, offering 22 advanced safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. Advanced electronic stability control with 17 functions and segment-first features like dual-camera washers ensure confidence and protection in all driving conditions.
In this latest form, the Tata Safari does more than refresh an icon. It blends performance, intelligence and comfort into a package that respects its legacy while clearly looking ahead. With its powerful new gasoline engine, immersive technology and a notable road presence, the Safari continues to redefine what a modern Indian SUV can be—confident, capable and bold.
