Mr. R.C. Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has been conferred the ICSI Lifetime Achievement Award for Translating Excellence in Corporate Governance into Reality by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). The recognition was presented at the ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance.

The award was presented to Mr. Bhargava by Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Government of India, and Ms. P. T. Usha, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and President of the Indian Olympic Association.
ICSI, a premier professional body established under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, operates under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and plays a key role in strengthening corporate governance practices and supporting India’s socio-economic development.
Accepting the honour, Mr. Bhargava said the recognition was not his alone but a reflection of the collective efforts of the Maruti Suzuki organisation. He credited the company’s management and employees for upholding high standards of ethics and integrity over more than four decades. He dedicated the award to all members of the Maruti Suzuki family, past and present.
Mr. Bhargava also shared his perspective on corporate governance, stating that it begins with leadership clearly distinguishing between right and wrong and consistently reflecting this in their actions. He emphasised that good governance requires top management to act as trustees of company assets, believe in team building, and safeguard the legitimate interests of all stakeholders.
